Teaches students to navigate and configure Epic and other major EHR systems within the context of real clinical workflows. Covers the EHR environment model (PRD/TST/BLD), core Epic modules, clinical workflow observation through nurse and physician shadowing, configuration using SmartText/SmartLinks/SmartPhrases, Clarity/Caboodle data warehouse reporting, change advisory boards, and clinical systems on-call responsibilities.

EHR Workflow Improvement Project — Student conducts a simulated clinical workflow improvement: observation notes from clinical shadowing scenarios (documenting click counts, workarounds, and time measurements), a redesigned Epic note template with SmartText/SmartLink configurations, a change management submission with testing plan and rollback procedure, a Clarity/Caboodle report demonstrating before/after documentation time metrics, and a presentation to a simulated Clinical Informatics Committee.
